Tractors are the power source for thousands of agricultural machinery. At the recently held 2024 China International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition, nearly 60 tractor companies presented 1500 products. At the exhibition, China Yituo, a subsidiary of China National Machinery Industry Corporation, introduced the Dongfanghong 450 horsepower continuously variable transmission wheel tractor, which is the largest domestically produced continuously variable transmission tractor.
What is continuously variable transmission?
Most of the existing tractors in our country use mechanical gear shifting, which is equivalent to manual transmission in cars. Due to the complex operating conditions, the operator needs to frequently step on the clutch to shift gears, resulting in high labor intensity. In practice, at each turning point, the operator may need to step on the clutch three times and shift four different gear levers, "said Xu Shulei, director of the Tractor Department of China Yituo Technology Center. The continuously variable transmission does not have gears, and the operator only needs to step on the accelerator when operating, and the system automatically matches the best effect, greatly reducing labor intensity. Continuously variable transmission represents one of the development directions of current tractor technology.
In the market, an update is underway to replace mechanical shifting with power shifting.
This year, the 10000th power shift tractor of Weichai Lovol Smart Agriculture was produced offline. Compared to continuously variable transmission, although power shift tractors still require manual operation by the operator when shifting gears, the operation changes from pressing the clutch to pressing a button, reducing labor intensity. We have sold over 4000 power shift tractors this year, almost eight times the total sales of last year, "said Pan Guixiao, the relevant person in charge of Weichai Lovol's marketing headquarters in Hunan.

At the same time, the harvester can be matched with different cutting platforms to achieve "one machine harvesting" of multiple crops such as corn, wheat, soybeans, etc.
